LIBRARY CARD APPLICATION

Adult

Applicant must show proof of residency, employment or school attendance in Belleville.

Child (Age 2 1/2 - grade 6)

Parents/Guardians must sign the library card application form.
Child must live or attend school in Belleville.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for all materials checked out
on a minor child's library card.

Non-Resident Card $35.00 fee per year.

County Card (ReBL: A reciprocal borrowing program among Essex
County academic and public libraries)

To obtain a County Library Card, an applicant must be a resident of Belleville who has a Belleville library card with no overdue fines. Applicant must show a driver's license or other form of identification and a social security card for a County Card.

LOAN PERIOD

28 days for books, paperbacks, periodicals, cassettes and CDs.
14 days for reserve books.
Videos and DVDs are 3 free for two weeks.

LIBRARY FINES

Adult Department: $.25 per day for overdue materials except videos (see below).
Children's Department: $.10 per day for overdue materials.
Videos: $1.00 per day for overdues.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Interlibrary loans are transactions in which library materials are made available by one library to another for use by an individual. Request interlibrary loans at the Reference Desk.

REFERENCE SERVICE

The Reference Department offers in-library, telephone service, email. A reference collection of several thousand volumes, as well as our circulating collection, serve as a source from which all kinds of questions can be answered. When you come to our Library, please do not hesitate to ask for information from our staff of professionally trained Librarians.

ARRANGEMENT OF BOOKS AND MEDIA

Fiction Books are shelved alphabetically by the last name of the author.
Thus to find the Old Man and The Sea by Hemingway, look on the shelf
under H, then Hemingway.

Non-fiction books are arranged according to the 10 classes of the Dewey Decimal System.

000 - Reference 500 - Pure Science
100 - Philosophy 600 - Applied Science
200 - Religion 700 - Fine Arts
300 - Social Sciences 800 - Literature
400 - Languages 900 - History/Geography

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

The Friends of the Belleville Public Library and Information Center,
an organization dedicated to community support of our library, came into
existence in 1982. The Friends have placed their energies into three
important areas of library development.
