Welcome to the Belleville Public Library and Information Center

The Belleville Public Library has been in existence for over 100 years and is the jewel of Washington Avenue which runs the course of the Township of Belleville, NJ between Nutley and Newark.

It serves a diverse population of approximately 36,000 residents and is located less than 10 minutes from Essex County’s beautiful Branch Brook Park . The library provides a host of programs and activities for all ages and serves a variety of cultures. We provide access to a collection of about 36,000 books and other materials for leisure as well as personal edification.

The Carnegie Building in which it now resides has undergone modifications over the years to modernize its appearance but efforts have been made to maintain elements of its original character. This includes preserving the original exterior facade within the building creating a grand accent to our conservatory where we host our more formal functions.

Our Adult Reading Room sits between the library’s print collection and the Conservatory in the library’s second story. The serene environment is conducive to study, research as well as relaxation. On the ground level are the beautifully redesigned Children’s Department, the Administrative offices, Circulation Department and our Teen Center.

Our Children’s Department has been transformed into a vibrant and colorful wonderland full of fanciful activities for Belleville’s tiniest residents. With shelves in easy reach of tiny hands and curious minds, tots will be engaged in a plethora of fun filled activities that engage active imaginations and expand their worlds.

The Belleville Public Library’s Teen Center is a place for Belleville’s up and coming generation of future adults. There they will find a host of activities and resources dedicated to them. They can relax with friends after a busy day at school and play games, work on assignments or just socialize. The Teen Center provides a comfortable alternative environment to the streets allowing kids to be kids.

We provide access to computers for the public as well as free wifi for personal laptops and mobile devices. In the adult area we use laptops allowing flexibility for adults to work comfortably at the different tables in the adult reading room as well as allowing for greater control of their proximity to one another. Our public printer supports color as well as black and white monochromatic printing. Additionally our printer supports printing from home and personal devices via PrintSpots.com.

The library is always seeking to improve our services and facilities to better serve the Community of Belleville.
